Community-Focused MVNO
Designed and deployed a compelling low-cost community-based mobile proposition based around the Nigerian community and Nollywood actors.
Challenged with designing and implementing a budget proposition for a niche community from a blank page and a team who had never worked in telecoms.
I was handed the keys to an empty office and asked to deliver a mobile network, so did exactly that!
My team and I set to work, negotiated contracts and defined a proposition that delivered a reliable service while remaining competitive in a saturated market.
Through the integration of complementary solutions, we leveraged the strengths of several partners and enabled Lomo to deliver to their end users a high-quality service at budget prices, while ensuring the maintenance overhead for the Lomo team was minimised.
Working with a group of Nollywood actors (who became our poster boys and girls, including Jim Iyke, Sam Dede, Victor Oswagu and Rita Nzelu), we were able to engage and support community-based initiatives within the African diaspora, combined wiht physical events and advertising with the niche radio stations and TV channel serving this community - we gained trust and support, while empowering Africans by offering them employment opportunities in sales, marketing and distribution of Lomo Mobile.
Background: An entrepreneur without any background in telecoms was invested in the launch a mobile product for the African diaspora, an brand which was owned and operated by Africans for Africans (particularly the Nigerians) living in the UK. The enterprise had been marred with numerous setbacks and delays.
